Members and Friends: Please join us on the scenic coastline of Connecticut, Saturday, February 8th, as we gather on the grounds of the Gatsby-era mansion, Eolia, at Harkness Memorial State Park for our Annual Winter Walk. It’s a spectacular site on 230 acres, with stately trees, formal gardens, beaches, and tidal marshes with panoramic views of Long Island Sound. Birdwatchers, bring your binoculars! The walking loop is an easy route, with good footing on gravel, boardwalk, and natural surfaces with a gentle grade. Please note that in the case of severe weather, the walk will be cancelled, so stay tuned to our Facebook pages or website groups message board for updates. Details are below.
Directions:
From I-95 South in CT: Go to exit 81. At the end of the ramp, turn left onto access road and proceed to stop light. At light, turn left onto Cross Road and continue to intersection with Boston Post Road, Route 1. Turn left and continue to light at Avery Lane; turn right. Avery will become Great Neck Road, route 213. The park will be two miles ahead on the right.
From I-95 North in CT: Go to exit 75, bear right at end of exit ramp and proceed onto Boston Post Road, Route 1. Go 3 miles to Avery Lane and proceed as described above.
Park in the designated areas off the entrance drive and meet just beyond on the lawn.
Good to Know:
• Dogs must remain on leash.
• Please be prepared to clean up after your dogs.
• Dogs are not allowed in the formal gardens.
• Dogs are allowed on the beach (from September 1 through April 1)
• Portable toilets will be on site. The inside restrooms will be unavailable.
• The mansion is currently closed for the season.
• This event will be held entirely outdoors, dress for the weather!
