The BMDCNV 2008 Annual Meeting will be held at the historic Putney Inn in Putney VT on May 18th. The meeting will consist of a brunch beginning at 11:00 AM followed by our annual business meeting.

At the conclusion of our meeting Ron Svec DVM will share his experiences as a staff veterinarian for the historic Iditarod. This will be can exciting and educational presentation that everyone will enjoy! In what has been called the "Last Great Race on Earth" the Iditarod is a tribute to Alaska's past and the route that has served as a life saving highway for those in need of medical attention starting in the 1920’s. The current race, which began in 1973, puts man and animal in some of the roughest, most beautiful terrain Alaska has to offer. Teams comprising of 12 to 16 dogs and their musher must cover over 1150 miles of jagged mountain ranges, frozen rivers, dense forests and miles of windswept coast over a period of 10 to 17 days. Add to that, temperatures far below zero, winds that can cause a complete loss of visibility, long hours of darkness and treacherous climbs, and you have the Iditarod.

Dogs are welcome at the Putney Inn but may not attend the brunch and meeting as they are being held in the dining room. For those wishing to spend the weekend in Vermont, rooms are available at a discounted rate of $118. Reservations may be made directly with the Inn.
