These miniatures depict everyday life from another time that exemplified the simple beauty of a tin toy. Between 1890 and 1930, workshops produced small tin toys that were sold in arcades, shops and the streets of cities like London for the equivalent of an English penny.
While popular at the turn of the century, penny toys were manufactured in Nuremburg, Germany and later in France, Spain and years later in Japan. Originals are sought after by collectors and enjoyed by many.
